Welcome to the creative outlet of Torgeir Hovden. This site contains the output of bound-for-mega-stardom single-man-band The Joy I Never Had.  The name plays on the fact that I now actually live out and have all the joy I didn’t have earlier in my life when I focused single-mindedly on school, computers and, well, alternative music (thank God I had that lifeline).

In 2000, when living in Boston, USA, I bought my first guitar – a Sigma dreadnaught (cheapo Martin brand) and started making some noise. Soon more equipment followed fast – not really reflecting my lack of progress actually learning to play. Not that it stopped me – and on this site there are several examples of output that isn’t very, well, tight. But that’s half the charm, isn’t it…

So here’s a list of what you can get to from this page:

2004/09

New Single: Electric. This is one schizophrenic record – Pixies-ripoff-rock, pop-funk-crossover and a…, well, listen for yourself.

2004/04

New Single: Brush Brush Brush. Electronic experiments – including sample-slicing experiments with a sampled toothbrush sound.

2003/10

Re-mastered versions of the songs on the compilation Star

2003/09

Singles Project 2002/2003: Over 12 months I released one single each month to friends. I forced myself to release stuff I didn’t really feel was ready, but realized that pressure helps development too.
